Four Egyptian-style ostrich fans from the 1956 Paramount film The Ten Commandments, three with turned wood and brass handles, the brass decorated with a hieroglyphic cartouche, largest -- 39.5in. (99cm.) -- fans such as these are seen in palace scenes, Nefretiri [Anne Baxter] carries one such fan in two scenes, firstly when Moses [Charlton Heston] returns in triumph after the conquest of Ethiopia, secondly when Moses returns to the palace in chains; accompanied by a wardrobe still of Anne Baxter holding such a fan -- an Egyptian high priest is also seen holding such a fan when Moses returns to the palace to bring Rameses the word of God; one fan with turned wood and lacquered handle decorated with stylized lotus petals -- 34in. (86.4cm.) long, accompanied by a wardrobe still of Bithiah [Nina Foch] holding an identical fan; and a sistren of painted bronze metal, the handle in the form of a lotus -- 15in. (38cm.) long -- seen in the parting of the Red Sea sequence in the hands of a Hebrew woman fleeing from the Egyptians (5)
