This watercolour depicts Robin Hood's Bay from an area close to the Whitby Road, showing part of the old road skirting the cliff-top buildings. This, together with much of the cliff, has over the years fallen into the sea. A similar watercolour, but from a different viewpoint closer to the houses, entitled A stiff North-Easter, was exhibited at the Old Water-Colour Society in 1887, no. 196, and later exhibited in both memorial exhibitions in 1897, in London and Liverpool, as belonging to Mrs Dobson.
