La ciselure de l’emmanchure est remarquable par l’ornement d’un Paua en nacre. Cet exemplaire est d’un grand classicisme stylistique.


Selon Simmons (1984), ce type de massue réservé aux commandants de guerre était utilisé au combat et servait d’étendard. Voir Force (1971, p.39) pour une massue comparable de la collection Fuller.
