QIANLONG SIX-CHARACTER SEAL MARK IN IRON RED AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)
The raised panel on the baluster vase is inscribed with a calligraphic poem by Qianlong reserved on a yellow ground embellished with floral motifs in famille rose, the neck is decorated with a pink formal band and flanked by a pair of iron-red and gilt-decorated archaistic handles. The interior and base are covered in turquoise enamel, and the reverse has apertures for attachment.

The poem inscribed on the present palanquin vase was written by the Qianlong Emperor in 1742, and it states that the vase was used in an imperial palanquin. Compare to a famille rose blue-ground wall vase from the collection of Sr Percival David, Bt., illustrated in the Illustrated Catalogue of Qing Enamelled Wares in the Percival David Foundation of Chinese Art: Section 2, London, 1991, Catalogue, no. A808.
