Samuel Margas was Subordinate Goldsmith to the King from 1723-30 and 1732-33. His most important surviving work is a wine-cistern of 1714 made for the Marquess of Crewe (see A. G. Grimwade, London Goldsmiths: 1697-1837, London, 1976, p. 591).
