A GEORGE II SILVER-GILT CUP AND COVER
MARK OF ELIZABETH GODFREY, LONDON, 1749
Tapering cylindrical on circular foot chased with scrolls and flowers, the lower-body applied with foliate strap-work and masks in oval cartouches, the leaf-capped scroll handles each applied with mask, the cover with baluster finial, each side engraved with a coat-of-arms, marked inside foot and on cover bezel

The first coat-of-arms is Gilbert impaling Sherard for John Gilbert (1693–1761), Archbishop of York from 1757 to 1761, and his wife Margaret, sister of Philip Sherard, 2nd Earl of Harborough and daughter of Bennet Sherard, whom he married in 1726.
The second arms are those of Edgcumbe with Gilbert in pretence for George 3rd Baron Edgcumbe later 1st Earl Edgcumbe (1720-1795).
