Each of the baluster vase is applied on the sides with a pair of gilt-bronze lion mask loose ring handles, finely carved through the red and green layers to the yellow-ochre ground on each lobe with a scene of scholar and attendant engaged in various leisurely pursuits including writing on a rock cliff, drinking tea seated under the shades of trees, and observing the landscape, all within panels separated by angular scroll. The neck is encircled by band of lotus bloom with scrolling tendrils, repeated on the spreading foot.
