A JADE AND AGATE TABLE LAMP
EDWARD I. FARMER STAMPED MARK, NEW YORK, CIRCA EARLY 20TH CENTURY
The lamp is composed of 18th and 19th century elements including a pierced and carved white jade incense holder that rises to a greenish-white jadeite bobeche from the center of a white jade cup stand set into a gilt-metal base raised on four agate bead feet. The shade is an inverted, dark green jade bowl with gilt-metal rim surmounted by a pierced white jade plaque and an agate figure of Guanyin that forms the finial.

Edward I. Farmer (1872-1942) was a well-known New York dealer with galleries at both 5 West 56th Street and 16 East 56th Street where he offered Chinese works of art, as well as European antiques. He is best remembered for the decorative lamps and desk accessories which he had fashioned from various Chinese jades and porcelains.
