The Greek inscription on this silver box indicates that it was donated to the Church of the Virgin Mary in Andrianople (Edirne) by Dimitrakis, son of Papageorgiou in 1768. Edirne or Andrianople as it is known in Greek is located near the borders of modern Greece and Bulgaria. It was the capital of the Ottoman state before Constantinople.
