rectangular box with rounded corners, the cover set with an oval translucent blue enamel plaque with diamond-set cypher of Victor Emanuele II of Savoy (1820-1878), King of Sardinia 1849-1861 and King of Italy 1861-1878, a diamond-set Royal crown above, within a polished gold frame, the cover, sides and base with panels of engine-turning with cast foliate scrolls and foliage to the borders, the base centred by a chased gold shield of the House of Savoy, in fitted red velvet case case stamped 'MUSY. PERE. ET. FILS. TURIN', the cover centred with gilt monogram V. E. with crown above

The box is accompanied by a presentation letter which when translated reads, 'From Gabinetto Sua Maestà (Vittorio Eamanuele II), To Cavaliere Notary Cassinis Torino, The King gifts this box to Cav Cassinis on the occasion of the marriage of Duke d’Aosta and Princesses Maria Del Pozzo Della Cisterna 30 May 1867'.
