拍品专文

These horses were conceived as elements for the famed Empire clock design, featuring Cupid riding Apollo's chariot, generally described as 'pendule au char de l'Amour'. Examples of these chariot clocks are illustrated in E. Neiheuser, French Bronze Clocks, 1700-1830, Atglen, 1999, p. 240, no. 910 and in P. Kjellberg, Encyclopédie de La Pendule Française, du Moyen Age au XXe siècle, Paris, 1997, p. 417.
