Publisher's green morocco gilt, title in gilt on spine, gilt edges (a few discreet repairs to spine); green quarter morocco folding case. Provenance: Edwin S. Wrigley (presentation inscription from the author’s son) -- acquired Sotheby’s, London, 15 February 1928.

FIRST EDITION of a work celebrated for its 'unusually attractive' shooting scenes (Schwerdt). PRESENTATION COPY FROM THE AUTHOR’S SON, inscribed on the flyleaf: 'Edwin S. Wrigley from Lawrence Rawstone. 1890.' As noted in the preface to a later edition 'Gamonia is valuable not only for its rarity and charm, it is the first treatise devoted solely to the subject of pheasant rearing, covert shooting, and the management of woodlands for the special purpose of preserving game'.
