A one-page autograph letter, signed, on paper headed "Manchester National Society for Women's Suffrage," addressed 29 Parliament St., London, [no date], to W.F. Lawrence Esq. M.P., stating: "I have the honour to forward to you a copy of a resolution, and an invitation to a meeting of members of Parliament on Wednesday .... " (some light spotting).

Lydia Becker was one of the earliest pioneers of the Women's Suffrage Movement. She co-founded and became secretary for the Manchester National Society for Women's Suffrage in 1867. In 1870 she founded a monthly newsletter The Women's Suffrage Journal and edited it over the next 20 years. She became secretary of the London Central Committee for Women's Suffrage and eventually its parliamentary candidate.
