The coverlet is embroidered in coloured silks and couched metal threads, depicting a pair of confronting phoenix to the centre, surrounded by various flowers and other birds, rabbits, qilin, tigers, a horse, an elephant, a lion and a deer, later mounted on ruby-red silk

Acquired prior to the 1960s when it was gifted to the vendor's mother by her brother, who regularly travelled to China, Hong Kong and Macao in the 1950s and 60s, and thence by decent to the current owner in 1987.
