Beakers of this large size and with covers were discovered in the Vung Tao Cargo and were sold at Christie's Amsterdam, 7 & 8 April, 1992, lots 73 - 79. A similar beaker to the second in this lot, but without cover, is in the Helena Woolworth McCann Collection in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and is illustrated by C. Le Corbeiller, China Trade Porcelain: Patterns of Exchange, New York, 1974, p. 27, no. 9, where the author suggests this shape is taken from a Delft adaptation of a glass original.
