Louis-Madelaine Pluvinet, maître in 1775.

This elegant set of fauteuils à la reine is stamped by the Parisian menuisier en siège Louis-Madelaine Pluvinet, who established his own atelier in 1778. Sadly his career was extremely brief, as he died in 1783, placing this group of seat furniture firmly in the period 1775-83 (P. Lemonnier, 'Pluvinet, Menuisiers, deux dynasties de maîtres menuisiers en sièges', L'Estampille, April 1993, p. 67). A comparable suite with similarly entrelac-carved decoration, but with medallion backs, was sold anonymously at Ader-Picard-Tajan, Monaco, 17 March 1988, lot 47.
