TWO DATED GILT-BRONZE FIGURES OF AMITAYUS
QIANLONG PERIOD, INCISED WITH CYCLICAL GENGYIN DATE, CORRESPONDING TO 1770, AND OF THE PERIOD
Each figure is seated in dhyanasana on an openwork throne draped in front with a long cloth with a flower head at its center, and is dressed in flowing robes and adorned with various jewelry. The face is cast with a serene expression, surmounted by a foliate crown, and backed by a separately cast flaming aureole.

The present two figures belong to a larger group of identical bronzes, most of which bear cyclical dates along the bottom of the rectangular frame of the throne, produced to commemorate birthday celebrations of the Emperor Qianlong and the Empress Dowager.
