The cover is inset with a white jade ruyi-shaped plaque carved with two figures poling a log boat in a river landscape, with a pine tree in the foreground and a pavilion in the distance. The French silver box is decorated in Japanism style with various scenes, and the bottom is engraved with an exotic, long-tailed bird swooping amidst bamboo and grasses. The box is stamped with a diamond-shaped marker's mark, C.G. separated by a parrot on a perch, and is inscribed with the retailer's mark, MARQUET, PARIS-NICE.
