The Halpert mask is a fine example in the so-called feminine style as discussed at length by Monni Adams ('Locating the Mano Mask', African Arts (AA)43 (2) 2010: 16-37). See also Petridis ('A Harley Mask at the Cleveland Museum of Art' in AA, 45 (1), pp 16-31 and figure 8) for detailed discussion of the historiography of stylistic attributions of Dan masks and illustration of a related mask formerly in the collection of Hubert Goldet.
The Harley attribution of this mask is confirmed thanks to Lou Wells's archives whereby the number '26' and mask itself correspond to Harley's photographs and notes documenting masks he was offering. It corresponds to the group Wells lists as '1952 Series A, Numbers 1-128' (email communication, 21 October 2014 and see Wells, Louis T., Jr. "The Harley Masks of Northeast Liberia." AA 10 (2) 1977: 22-27).

Le masque d'Halpert est un bel exemple du style féminin longuement évoqué par Monni Adams ('Locating the Mano Mask', African Arts (AA) 43 (2) 2010, pp.16-37). Voir aussi Petridis ('A Harley Mask at the Cleveland Museum of Art' in AA, 45 (1), pp.16-31 et fig.8) pour une étude détaillée de l'historiographie des attributions stylistiques des masques Dan ainsi qu'une illustration d'un masque comparable provenant de l'ancienne collection Hubert Goldet. L'appartenance de ce masque à Harley nous a été confirmé par les archives de Lou Wells dans lesquelles le numéro "26" et le masque lui-même correspondent aux photographies de Harley ainsi qu'à des notes à propos des masques qu'il étudiait. Ce masque correspond au groupe que Wells liste comme suit: "1952 Series A, Numbers 1-128" (communication par email, 21 octobre 2014 et voir Wells, Louis T., Jr. "The Harley Masks of Northeast Liberia." AA 10 (2) 1977, pp.22-27).
