The present vase is very finely potted to an elegant and well-balanced form, covered with an attractively unctuous glaze simulating the revered bluish-grey glaze of Northern Song Ru wares. Compare to several Ru-type glazed vases of similar form, the first of a smaller size from the collection of the British Rail Pension Fund, sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 16 May 1989, lot 48; another smaller example exhibited in the City Museum of St. Louis from 1911 until 1943/44, sold at Christie's New York, 21 March 2002, lot 237; one larger example from the J. Pierpont Morgan Collection, sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 26 April 2004, lot 1055; and a smaller one from the Zhuyuetang Collection, illustrated in Monochromes of the Yuan to Qing Periods. The Zhuyuetang Collection, Hong Kong, 2005, pl. 96.
