The sitter, called ‘The Just’, was a grandson of King Augustus III of Poland and was Elector of Saxony until 1806 when he became the first King of Saxony. After the Congress of Vienna in 1815 over half of Saxon territory, consisting of just under half of its population, was turned over to Prussia. He was succeeded by his younger brother Anton.
