Professore Cesare Lapini:

The following lots celebrate the varied allegorical and genre subjects so often associated with the prolific workshop of Cesare Lapini, many of which he sold with great success from his Florence galleria to a global clientele. His unique compositions ranged from charming portraits of children in various pursuits, such as lot 291, to allegorical creations of figures taking flight, such as his figure of Psyche (lot 290), which was exhibited at an impressive number of such statues at the Paris 1900 Exposition Universelle (see inset illustration). A figure of Philosophy finished by Ezio Ceccarelli for the galleria, would become the centerpiece of his stand at the exhibition and was subsequently sold Christie's, New York, 24 April 2002, lot 405 ($83,650).
