Of carafe form, the clear glass wall overlaid in translucent-ruby, these two layers etched, wheel-engraved and selectively polished in the Asian taste with scrolling lotus vine over cinquefoil vine, the flaring neck and circular foot edged with a band of chevron, the lower body with stiff-leaf tips, the opaque white interior lined in cream

The Islamic form and the Asian inspired carving of the clear and translucent-ruby glass on this vessel are particularly subtle, with contrasting matte and polished 'gem-like’ surfaces that appear to float above the opalescent ground. For an example of this form, also carved with these distinctive features, see Sotheby’s, London, 15 July 2004, lot 181, this vase now conserved at The Corning Museum of Glass (inv. no. 2004.2.12).
