A PALE GREYISH-CELADON JADE 'LUOHAN' BOULDER
18TH CENTURY
The boulder is carved in high relief with a robed luohan carrying a crown standing on a rocky mountain ledge, below a two-verse calligraphic inscription reading La hu la zun zhe, Ru lai zhuan wu zhong sheng wu zhuan, Shui shi ci zhe ding men ju yan, Chi qi bao guan zhang gong ru lai, You neng suo hu bu yan yi gai that references the cycle of rebirth and describes the luohan carrying a jewelled headdress. The stone is of a greyish celadon tone with darker grey and russet inclusions.
