Duodecimo (137 x 85 mm). Three engraved plates including the frontispiece. (Half-title spotted, short marginal tear in leaf H1, spot in gathering C, without final blank.) Near contemporary black boards with a textured pattern, orange spine label titled in gilt, edges red (extremities rubbed).
FIRST EDITION, COMPLETE WITH THE RARE ENGRAVED PLATES. The text consists of 108 bawdy verse tales. AE and APBC record only one copy at auction, the Nordmann copy. Of the three copies listed in WorldCat, at the BL, Cambridge and UCLA, none are described as having plates. The Peyrefitte copy also lacked the plates; but these are clearly integral to the edition, not extra illustrations: the plates bear engraved page references for the binder.
