EXCEPTIONAL VINTAGE PORT SPECIALLY SHIPPED FROM THE SYMINGTON RESERVES FOR THIS SALE

Just before this catalogue went to print I was able to taste the recently launched Graham’s Ne Oublie 1882 tawny port. An unforgettable wine with an amazing complexity and infinite life.
A remarkable piece of history. Over the years I have enjoyed a large number of great vintage ports from Graham’s and other houses belonging to the Symington family.

In 1882 Andrew James Symington came to Portugal and started working for W.. Graham’s.
This was the start of a family renowned for their love and commitment to Port and the Douro region. Indeed the Symington Family is now the producer of 1 in every 3 bottles of premium port, they have played a significant role in the development of the remote Douro region.

The Symington family currently are the owners of a number of important brands: Graham, Dow, Warre and Quinta do Vesuvio. Within each declared vintage these brands often are among the best of that year. Legendary wines that belong in every serious wine collection.

For this sale the Symington family went through their family reserve stock to select a number of vintage ports especially for Christie’s. All bottles were tasted by Charles Symington prior to recorking, closed with a new wax top, labeled and packed in new wooden cases.
Since 1994 the Symington family has been bottling a very small number of vintage port in large format bottles for future events or dinners. Sometimes only 3 or 6 bottles were bottled.
These large bottles were never released for sale.

We are very proud to offer you the chance to acquire some of these family reserve vintage ports and unique large formats. To make this offer complete the Symington’s have also selected some highly rewarded vintage ports from more recent vintages, including the Dow’s 2007, 100 points in Wine Spectator, and the rare Graham’s Stone Terraces 2011.

The lots below represent to best that vintage port has to offer with the greatest provenance and in pristine condition.

Grahams 1945
In original wooden case
Tasting note: Bottled in London as well as in Oporto. The most outstanding '45. Deep-coloured, fairly intense, lively, attractive, long 'legs'; immediately forthcoming fragrance, spice, sweetness and fruit masking high alcoholic content. A sweet smelling, fragrant, yet powerful wine, still tannic, profound. Last tasted March 1998 ***** M.B.
