A CELADON AND RUSSET JADE CARVING OF A MYTHICAL ANIMAL
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
The stone is carved in the round as a recumbent mythical animal with rounded eyes and a broad snout. Its head is incised with finely detailed fur, and its thick bushy tail is flicked to one side. The pale yellowish-celadon stone is suffused with russet streaks and inclusions.
