Granville Somerset, third son of the 2nd Lord Raglan and younger brother to the 3rd Lord Raglan, was a major and honorary lieutenant-colonel in the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia) and a lieutenant in the Royal Navy. He married Malvina Charlotte MacGregor, daughter of Rear-Admiral Sir Malcolm MacGregor, in 1892. These stones were presumably sent back to Cefntilla by him from Constantinople.
