chased scrolling rococo mount with double-sided female and male mask finial, the three-sided citrine seal engraved with a coat-of-arms, a male profile head and a winged spur crest below motto 'Nunquam Non Paratus', (Never Unprepared)
2 in. (48 mm.) high
The arms are those of Johnston of Scotland, the most senior branch of the family being the Marquess of Annandale, now extinct.

A closely related seal is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, inv no. M.6-1972, which has on one face an engraved profile of Diana, another the monogram of Sir Kenrick Clayton and the third side with their coat-of-arms.
