This form of plate was introduced at Vincennes in 1753 and similar decoration started to appear shortly after this. These plates may be a later addition to an earlier service, which explains why the design was still in use into the 1770s. See the footnote to lot 36, a Vincennes sugar bowl, cover and stand painted with the same pattern.

Aloncle was a painter of birds, animals and landscapes, who was active at the manufactory 1758-81; Baudouin, was a gilder, and was active from 1750-1800 and Raux was a painter of flowers between 1766 and 1779.
