The depiction of the European spectators to the right of the elephant fight is very similar to Europeans illustrated in a painting of Maharana Bhupal Singh at Gangaur Ghat attributed by Andrew Topsfield to the artists Pannalal and Chaganlal circa 1935, (Andrew Topsfield, Court Painting at Udaipur, Zurich, 2001, no. 272, p. 301). A similar very large painting of a palace scene at Udaipur dated to the 19th Century was sold in these Rooms, 11 April 1989, lot 8.
