The rectangular breakfront brèche marble top, above a single and a twin-folding door, decorated with panels of oriental lacquer, the interior with ten drawers and two adjustable shelves, the angles to the front with tapering fluted columns, the sides with similar decorated lacquer panels, on tapering fluted feet; the carcass stamped five times 'G. DURAND'

Specialising in the manufacture of 18th Century furniture models, Gervais-Maximilien-Eugène Durand is recorded as having worked at both 12 rue de la Cerisaie and 62 rue Saint-Antoine during the last quarter of the 19th Century. He was awarded the silver medal at the 1889 Paris Exposition Universelle. The atelier altered its name to Durand et fils when his son joined the firm in 1890.
