A BLACK AND WHITE JADE SEATED SCHOLAR GROUP
QING DYNASTY, EARLY 18TH CENTURY
The group is finely carved in openwork to depict a gentleman in a scholar's cap seated in a leisurely pose, leaning against a large ornamental rock. His facial features are well defined to provide a dignified expression and is holding a scroll in one hand whilst his other arm is outstretched on the corresponding knee. He is accompanied by a recumbent deer at his feet.
