The English translation of the book subtitle can be read as: Facsimile Reproduction of Important Findings of the First Royal Prussian Expedition to Turfan in East Turkistan.

The current book is extremely rare with only very few surviving copies, and is of paramount historical and academic importance. The original prints of pictures from the Bezeklik Caves, many of which are illustrated in this volume, were destroyed in the Second World War air raid, making this publication the only remaining record of these invaluable artefacts which no longer exist.

Albert von Le Coq (1860-1930) was a German archaeologist and explorer who led several German expeditions to the Turfan area in Central Asia.
