A SET OF ROMAN GOLD AND GARNET JEWELLERY
CIRCA 1ST-2ND CENTURY A.D.
Including a necklace composed of various shaped garnet beads interspersed with mainly cylindrical and spherical gold spacer beads, with one oval-shaped and three teardrop-shaped garnet pendants, and a central pendant of double garnet plumes between two cabochon garnets, with two suspended gold beads either side, some elements later, all strung together with a modern hook and loop clasp, 14 in. (35.5 cm.) long; together with a gold pin with a tear-shaped box terminal with twisted rope border and garnet inlay, 2 in. (5 cm.) long; and a pair of gold hoop earrings with circular box settings with twisted rope borders, each with cabochon garnet inlay, 5/8 in. (1.5 cm.) high (4)
