On three feet modelled as lion's paws, of circular form with flat lobed rim, the blue, green and red glass panels arranged around a central roundel with a fluting Krishna, a gopi and her cow, under a sheet of mica, surrounded by an engraved floral garland, the radiating niches inhabited with heavenly beings, the rim ornate with scenes depicting various episodes of the life of Krishna

This is an impressive example of this particular technique, usually used in small boxes, dishes and pieces of jewellery. Being 31cm. in diameter, this footed dish is one of the largest examples of its kind. It is also finely decorated with figural scenes, illustrating episodes from the life of Krishna, probably the hugely popular Bhagavata Purana.

This technique, from the city of Pratabgarh near Lucknow, and resembling "émail en résille sur verre" is described in Harold Newman, An Illustrated Dictionary of Jewelry, London, 2005, p.235.
