Gouache heightened with gold on paper, the Emperor Aurangzeb sits on a gem-set gold throne under a cloth canopy presenting a sarpech to the officer before him who leans on a long sword, behind him another officer holds a document case, small areas of creasing, mounted, framed and glazed

A similar Mughal portrait of a seated noble with richly embellished textiles with small repeated floral motif decoration and dated to circa 1720 is in the Chester Beatty Library (Linda York Leach, Mughal and Other Indian Paintings from the Chester Beatty Library, vol.I, Dublin, 1995, fig. 4.25, p. 507).
