AN IVORY AND HARDWOOD INLAID SCRIBE'S BOX
SPAIN, 16TH CENTURY
Of rectangular form inlaid in ivory, green-stained ivory and stained and unstained hardwood, with contemporaneous functioning iron lock fitting with key, curved handle and hinges attached to lid, all four sides decorated with inlaid stellar motifs set in a grid delineated by diamond-shaped borders, the lid with similar stellar motifs set inside a grid composed of alternating diamond and stellar shapes, base of the sides and edges of the lid with inlaid triangles, minor crack to the lid
7 7/8 x 14¼ x 10¾in. (20 x 36.2 x 27.4cm.)
