This bureau-cabinet appears to be the work of the St Paul's Churchyard cabinet-maker John Coxed (1711-1718) who was established at The White Swan workshop in 1711. He specialized in the making of bureau and bureau-cabinets often featuring decorative pewter inlay and veneered in maple or elm stained to produce a rich golden tone, suggesting tortoiseshell or marble.
