By repute shot by Admiral Edward Evans, 1st Baron Mountevans (1881-1957), who was second in command on Scott's ill-fated second Antarctic exhibition, and during the first World War he captained HMS Broke, with which he famously rammed the German destroyer G-42 almost splitting its hull in two. It is from the latter position that he became known as 'Evans of the Broke.
