In 1942 the Royal Academy developed a plan for rebuilding London following the end of the war, which included devising a string of grand buildings on the South Bank. Richardson was one of the group of architect members involved in the scheme. When the South Bank was redeveloped in the 1950s and 60s, Richardson was outspoken in his criticism of the new development with its brutalist modern architecture.

We are grateful to John Harris and Charles Hind for their assistance with cataloguing the group of architectural drawings.
