Les dix Portraits d'Homme (1964) que nous présentons à la vente sont un agrandissement de l'une des figures représentées dans le Déjeuner sur l'Herbe d'Alain Jacquet, qui constitue une des oeuvres les plus emblématiques de l'artiste. Il en réinterprète en effet le thème et l'atmosphère par une approche photographique en utilisant un tirage sérigraphique. Traditionnellement, le portrait a souvent pour fonction la représentation immédiate et compréhensible du sujet. Or, ici, la lecture est brouillée par le système de pixellisation. Cette volonté délibérée d'introduire un trouble dans la perception traduit la démarche de Jacquet qui souhaite "qu'un tableau soit davantage une question qu'un constat". La transformation de l'image et sa déclinaison en de multiples combinaisons de couleurs entrent totalement dans l'esthétique du Pop Art et font ainsi écho au travail sériel mis en place, à la même époque, par l'un de ses plus illustres représentants, Andy Warhol. "Reality can never be truly represented ; even the interpretations that are manmade through the various means of art : the impressionist, the pointillist, the fawn or the cubist frame, will always hold a deceptive quality in reflecting reality. Perhaps we are never meant to see reality if only through the fixed filter of culture and despite countless efforts to simulate our current reality, one version does not necessarily embody a greater sens of truth than the other". The ten Portraits of a Mani1964) that we are presenting in our sale are an enlargement of one of the figures depicted in the photograph by the French artist Alain Jacquet entitled Le Déjeuner sur l'Herbe. Indeed, he adapted both the theme and atmosphere with a photographic approach by using the silk-screen printing. A portrait often has an immediate function of representation. In this photograph, the perception is blurred due to the high level of pixelisation. Whether you stand near or far from the portrait, the details are never distinguished ; hence the picture never reaches a clear readability. The fact that this portrait is blurred leaves room for questioning. Moreover, Alain Jacquet envisioned "his painting to pose a question rather than a statement". The outcome is strongly pop art infused work that brings back the memories to the late Andy Warhol series of portraits.
