The present gueridon is closely related to the oeuvre of the celebrated firm of Jacob Desmalter, name used by Georges Jacob (père) and his son François-Honoré-Georges between 1803 and 1813. Closely related examples by the same firm include a gueridon sold from the Collection of Madame Nelia Barletta de Cates, Christie's, Paris, 18 Mars 2003, lot 344 (EUR101,050 with premium), and another, the top fitted with a watercolour depicting a floral composition, sold Christie's, Paris, 21 June 2006, lot 329 (EUR48,000 with premium).
M. Beurdeley illustrates a further related example, albeit larger, with twinned supports and stamped 'Jacob D. rue Meslée' (Georges Jacob et son Temps, Saint-Rémy-en-l'Eau, 2002, p.86).
