LATE 16TH CENTURY
With stout tapering fullered double-edged blade of flattened diamond section, short grooved ricasso, blued iron hilt comprising short slightly downturned quillons each with button finial, small side-ring, original rayskin-covered wooden grip with a shaped collar above and below, and large plummet-shaped pommel with silver cap decorated in low relief with foliage against a blackened ground, the pommel retaining traces of original black shellac finish
