Each on a naturalistic base respectively named 'CLORINDE' and 'TANCREDE', both riders are armoured, the former is swinging an axe whilst the latter is holding a broken lance and in the act of drawing a sword

The tragic tale of Tancredi and Clorinda forms part of the epic poem written in 1581 by Torquato Tasso titles La Gerusalemme Liberata. Set during the First Crusade Tancredi, a Christian knight, falls in love with Clorinda, a Muslim warrior maiden. During a night battle Clorinda manages to set fire to a Christian siege tower but is struck down in the melee by Tancredi and converts to Christianity before dying
