With broad double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section with broad shallow fuller on each face at the forte extending through the oblong ricasso, the inner face of blade inlaid with a copper-alloy running wolf mark at the forte, the ricasso struck with a series of three maker's marks on each side, iron guard of flattened bars with plum-coloured finish and incised with crescents and lines on the outer faces, comprising straight spatulate quillons, upper and lower side-rings linked by arms, and inner-guard of a pair of crossed bars, one extending to form a thumb-ring, the reverse of one quillon marked with the Roman numeral issue number 'XVII', wire-bound grip, probably original, and later conical pommel
