Each candlestick is raised on four legs in the form of ruyi sceptres decorated in gilt and blue enamel, and joined to a central vertical support by gilt-metal braces composed of ruyi-shaped clouds. The mid-section of the candlestick is constructed from two perpendicular planes, each is comprised of an openwork 'double happiness' character held between a pair of bats, which further supports two pairs of fish issuing vapours upholding the metal drip-pan.
