Le succès de Jean Royère en France ainsi que les nombreuses commandes reçues de l'étranger l'amènent à s'agrandir et à ouvrir en 1946 une galerie au Caire. L'année suivante, l'architecte Nadim Majdalani lui propose de venir s'implanter avenue des Français à Beyrouth. Sa réussite au Liban, où il séjourne plusieurs fois par an, résulte de l'amitié qui unit les deux hommes : grâce à ses nombreuses relations, Majdalani introduit Jean Royère auprès de la bourgeoisie de Beyrouth qui en fait le décorateur le plus en vue du Liban. La même année, Jean Royère inaugure des bureaux d'études et son succès se traduit par l'aménagement de nombreux palaces à Beyrouth, dont le Capitole et par l'installation du futur Président Chéhab. Il reçoit de nombreuses commandes du Moyen Orient qui sont toutes exécutées à Beyrouth, faisant de la capitale libanaise le second lieu, après Paris, le plus important de sa carrière. En 1955, Majdalani fait construire avenue Sleiman - Boustani la galerie L'Atelier qui lui permet d'exposer ses oeuvres de façon permanente. Monsieur Salah Halwani est l'associé de Nadim Majdalani et fait la connaissance de Jean Royère dès les années 40. Les deux architectes habitent le même immeuble à Raouché face à la mer. Ils lui commandent la décoration du fameux Scotch Club situé au rez-de-chaussée de l'immeuble - point de chute de toute la société huppée de l'époque - ainsi que l'ensemble des meubles de leurs appartements respectifs. La collection que nous présentons ici reflète l'évolution des commandes qui se succèderont auprès de Royère sur près de deux décennies et retrace l'histoire d'une amitié durable. Supported by an increasingly international clientele, in 1946 Jean Royère was able to open a gallery in Cairo, and the following year was invited by the architect Nadim Majdalani to establish a base in Beirut. During the course of Royère's frequent visits to the Lebanon, a profound friendship between the two men naturally evolved, and Majdalani responded by being able to introduce numerous prospective clients. Amongst these successful early commissions were numerous Beirut palaces, including those of 'Le Capitole', together with an installation for the future president Chéhab. As the appreciation of local clients grew, Beirut evolved second-only to Paris for the importance to Royère's career, with many of the furnishings now being produced in local workshops. With the construction in 1955 of Majdalani's 'L'Atelier' gallery on avenue Sleiman-Boustani, Royère now had a vitrine through which he could continually exhibit his new designs. Mr. Salah Halwani, himself also an architect who lived in the same buildings as his friend Nadim Majdalani, was introduced to Royère in the late 1940s. Together these two architects commissioned the decorator to create the famous 'Scotch Club' for the ground floor of their apartment building, as well as their respective apartements. The collection here offered traces the evolution of the commissions, and bears witness to the lasting friendship that was to engage Royère for a period lasting more than two decades.
