A SANCAI-GLAZED POTTERY FIGURE OF A LOKAPALA
TANG DYNASTY (618-907)
The guardian is shown standing atop a recumbent ox, with his head turned to the left, and with his left hand placed on his hip and his right hand raised to hold a now-missing weapon. His unglazed face is well modeled with fierce expression, and he is dressed in elaborate armor with dragon epaulets and divided breast plate, over a knee-length tunic, all glazed in amber, green and cream.
33¾ in. (86 cm.) high
