Infusing high style Philadelphia design with flourishes of the German baroque, this clock is a remarkable example of the regionally specific design aesthetic of the Lancaster Chippendale School.
With its carved rosettes, flame-turned finials and elegantly formed swans neck pediment, the bonnet is conceived in the sophisticated style of urban Philadelphia. But the bonnet and case also display a particularly Germanic influence in the carved cornice moldings, relief-carved tympanum board, engaged quarter columns and applied turtle carving.
